The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) promulgates technical standards that “apply both traditional and new technologies to the full range of information-related needs, including retrieval, re-purposing, storage, metadata, and preservation.”—About NISO Standards are alphanumerically coded; nearly all carry the designation Z39 followed by a decimal point and a unique number.
